Privacy Policy

The short version

SafeOCR is designed so that your images and the text extracted from them never leave your device. Text recognition runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and WebGPU. This page explains exactly what that means, plus the advertising and analytics services we use to keep the tool free.

OCR processing: nothing is uploaded

When you use SafeOCR to extract text from an image, PDF, or screenshot, the recognition model runs locally in your browser. Your image files and the text recognized from them are not transmitted to, or stored on, any SafeOCR server. We have no ability to see the content you process, because it never reaches us.

Google AdSense

SafeOCR is free to use and supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.

Google Analytics (GA4)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage of the site — which pages are visited, general device and location information, and how visitors navigate the site. This analytics data is separate from your OCR content: Analytics never sees the images you process or the text they contain, only your interaction with pages (e.g., which tool page you opened).

What we do and do not collect

• Never collected: the images, PDFs, or screenshots you process, or any text extracted from them. Recognition happens locally and is not sent to us.
• Collected via cookies/analytics: standard web analytics (pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser type, referrer) via Google Analytics, and advertising identifiers/cookies via Google AdSense and its partners.
• Collected if you contact us: your email address and message content, if you email us directly.

Third-party advertising vendors

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Third-party vendors’ use of advertising cookies enables them to serve ads to users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. Other advertising partners working with Google may also participate in ad serving on this site.

Your opt-out options

• Use this site’s own cookie consent banner: click “Decline” to keep analytics and advertising cookies off. Your choice is remembered, and you can change it at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
• Visit Google Ads Settings to opt out of personalized advertising by Google.
• Visit the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page to opt out of participating vendors’ use of cookies for interest-based advertising.
• Configure your browser to block or delete cookies (check your browser’s settings menu); this will also affect Analytics and ad personalization on this site.

Children’s privacy

SafeOCR is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
